Is there another term for generic quotslow dancingquot?

Question

Is there another term for generic quotslow dancingquot?
My fiance is trying to teach me a dance that we can do for the first dance at our wedding. He says he learned it a long time ago, and only knows that it is called quotslow dancing.quot Is quotslow dancingquot a term that refers to multiple ballroom dances, or does it refer to just one? Is it, perhaps, a simplified version of the waltz? Ive never danced before outside of s nights at clubs and I am SO confused.

Answer

Slow dancing refers to the music, not the steps, that is being played. When you are listening to the beat, its a slower beat than with a faster dance. Thats all the term means. The beat is slower. brbrTypically, slow dances are the type where you can dance very closely and basically snuggle one another on the floor. For this reason, theyre based on VERY simple steps usually. The most complicated I know would be the waltz, which uses the basic box step, and isnt that hard to learn or to use. You use it for dances with a beat though, and most slowrock doesnt use a beat. And while you CAN adjust it for a beat song... its not easy for a new dancer to do.brbrBut for a new dancer, I would personally always go with the twostep. Like someone said, its step to one side, feet together, then step to the other, feet together. Extremely simple. Its basically like walking in place once you start moving thus the whole swaying dance people know... which... isnt really a dance at all. If they pick their feet up, theyre doing a step. brbrBut slowdancing just refers to multiple dances that are done at a slowsong. Not just one specific dance.brbrTry this site, read about what your feet are supposed to do and practice in a mirror. Youll get farther. And then if possible, convince him to go to a couples dance a few times before the wedding.
